Research and Planning: COLLEGE MAGAZINE CONTENTS PAGE
I used Indesign to complete this mock up of what the contents page of my college magazine would look like. I chose colours which link into the colour of the logo and also the colour scheme on the front page. I like the contents page because there is not too much on there and the colours link well together to the front page.
Research and Planning: FINAL COLLEGE MAGAZINE FRONT COVER
This is the final version of my college magazine front cover. See the next post for the evaluation on this.
Research and Planning: EVALUATION OF COLLEGE MAGAZINE
Evaluation of my College Magazine
What Went Well
I thought the magazine overall looks very professional. I like the colour scheme of the magazine of red and light blue. These are the colours of the college logo and I think they work well together. I like the main image on the front because it is big, bright and fills the whole page.
I like the basic fonts that I used on the front cover because it does not make it look too crowded. I downloaded the fonts from Da Font.
Improvements
The background colour looks a bit too bright and if I was to change it, it would be a different colour that was included in the logo. I don't really like the red banner along the bottom because it sticks out too much. The black font for the main cover line does not really stand out as much because it is bold, black on a strange colour (green & grey). The picture was also taken on an iPhone camera and was not a very good quality when zoomed in closely.
How I did it
I used Photoshop to create this magazine cover. I used all of the codes and conventions of a typical magazine including masthead, cover lines, main cover line, barcode, issue number, date, main image, sub image and plug. I aimed my cover lines at students of the college including things I think they would like to read about.
I met the brief of the task with this cover because it is aimed at college students and contains all the codes & conventions of a typical magazine.

Research and Planning: COLLEGE MAGAZINE FRONT COVER SO FAR
This is the initial draft for the front cover of the magazine. I will interview people and then make changes next time.
Research and Planning: INTERVIEW QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS FOR MY COLLEGE MAGAZINE
Question 1
What do you think of the overall layout of the magazine?
Josh: The overall layout of the front cover is effective and includes all the key codes and conventions of a college magazine.
Jake: I like how big the main image is on the front cover. It is eye catching and the sub image works effectively.
Emma: The layout of the front cover is clear and makes it easy to read everything that is on there. I like the red banner with the social information across the bottom.

Question 2
What do you think of the colour scheme of the front cover of the magazine?
Josh: I like the colours because they are the same colours as the college logo.
Josh: I like the colours because they are the same colours as the college logo.
Jake: The colour scheme is good because it links into the college logo and they are simple colours.
Emma: The basic colours make it easy to understand and your eye is attracted to certain parts of information. I like the logo instead of the C.

Question 3
Would you be interested in reading the stories as shown on the front of this magazine?
Josh: Yes, I think the stories would appeal to people in this college as we have been badly affected by the inconvenience of the move.
Jake: These stories would be interesting for people in this college but maybe change the A level results day one to something more recent.
Emma: You need some girly stories on the front instead of all academic stories.

Question 4
Are there any other stories you would want in a college magazine?
Josh: Competitions.
Jake: We need some sports news!!
Emma: Girly stuff (sorry!).
Josh: Competitions.

Emma: Girly stuff (sorry!).
Question 5
What do you think would be a reasonable price to pay (if anything) for this magazine?
Josh: £1.99 would be a reasonable price for this magazine.
Jake: You could charge for it, £1 would be a reasonable price, but it would be better if it was free!
Emma: I think it should be free of charge.
Overall, the answers to the questions tell me that the people I asked like the layout and the colours of the magazine but the stories could do with changing and some more interesting things being added in. I think I would make this magazine free of charge.

Research and Planning: TITLE PLANNING FOR COLLEGE MAGAZINE
Here are 3 titles which I planned to create my college magazine. They are all of different font and colour. In the end, I decided to choose the top one in red.

Research and planning: COLLEGE MAGAZINE DRAFTS
Here is my draft for the college magazine Clarendon News. I have included a masthead, cover lines and main image on the front cover as well as a plug, issue number, date and price.
On the contents page, I have included a title alongside images which relate to the stories that will be in the magazine.
Research and Planning: COLLEGE MAGAZINE ANALYSIS
You can tell that this is a college magazine because the title of College Life means that it is aimed at students. The main image of a young woman who looks like a student also attracts the magazine to the target audience of students.
The coverlines are also the sort which would appeal to somebody of a college age because they are relevant to what young people might want to read about.
The magazine includes a masthead, selling line, issue number and date, main image, main coverline, coverlines and sub images.
Research and Planning: INDESIGN TUTORIAL
I learnt how to use Indesign and the place tools to import a word document onto the software. I learnt how to add columns for text, how to change the size of an image and how to change the background colour. I am doing this in preparation for my college magazine preliminary task.

Research and planning: AIRBRUSH TUTORIAL
I used photoshop to airbrush this model using spot removal. This is my first attempt at using photoshop to edit an image. I used brush tools and change colour tools.
I thought it went okay but might meed a bit more practice.
