Research and Planning: CONTENTS PAGE AND DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD SO FAR
This is my double page spread so far.
And this is my contents page so far.
I have adopted the idea from a base magazine which I have been looking at which is Billboard. On the contents page of their magazine, they have a top 20 charts list and this is how I wanted to do this on my contents page.

Research and Planning: HOW TO USE STUDIO LIGHTING
We had some problems with the lighting when we were completing the pre-production photography. Therefore, I decided to do some research into how to get the best lighting for taking photographs.
I found that there are a few methods which I could use because we do have the equipment to do so in college.
One is using flash heads. These are connected to the camera and as well as the flash on the camera, you also get a flash from another light. To make the lighting even better using this method, you can add an umbrella or a softbox to the light.
Both of these methods help light to be concentrated which will make the pictures brighter.
This equipment is now set up in the college studio so when it comes to taking some of the photos for my production, I will use these methods.

Research and Planning: POSE RESEARCH
After doing some pre-production photography, I have decided to do some research into different poses for photographs. I will use this research to help me decide to positions for when I take my final photographs.
Before taking my main photographs, I conducted some research about different poses which could be used.
The first pose is this one:

I decided to use a variation on this pose for my main model on the contents page. She will be seen to be playing with her hair whilst not looking straight at the camera.
Another pose which I may use is the following for my front page.

This would look good on the front page because I would make it as a medium shot with mainly my models face being the centre of the page.
The images in this post were taken from the following website:

Research and Planning: MUSIC MAGAZINE SURVEY RESULTS SLIDESHARE
I conducted a survey on Survey Monkey to see what people thought about music magazines. It shows that most people would pay between 50p and £2 for a music magazine and that most people read pop magazines.
I will use these results to help me when creating my magazine and evaluate how I have used this towards the end of production.

Research and Planning: COSTUME AND PROP LIST SHAPED BY RESEARCH
I have done some research into the props and costumes which my models could wear. I based my research on two front covers of the Billboard magazine which my magazine is based on. I have analysed on the image how the item of clothing should be worn.
I have decided not to have any props because of the two examples of front covers I have chosen do not include any props.
Research and Planning: MAGAZINE DRAFT AUDIENCE INTERVIEWS
I conducted some interviews regarding the initial drafts of my music magazine. The interviews have showed me that the price for the magazine should be between £2 and £2.50. I have also learnt that the magazine does look like the genre it is supposed to be representing which is a charts music.
From the interviews, the improvements I need to make are that the cover lines should be repositioned and maybe changed and that there needs to be some more images which I will consider when producing my magazine.

Research and Planning: MASTHEAD AND SELLING LINE
Welcome to the official start of my account of AS Media Studies coursework. I will be creating a music magazine of the genre charts magazines.
My magazine will be called Spotlight and I am going for an informal but classy look.
I have used a play on words for my selling line - The UKs number one charts magazine - which relates to songs in the charts being at number one.

Research and Planning: PLAN FOR OCTOBER HALF TERM
Unfortunately, I am not going to have access to Photoshop over half term and therefore will not be able to do any production work. However, there is still some research and planning which I will be doing over the break.
I will continue to develop the drafts for my music magazine adding some colour to the drafts and I will document this here.

Research and Planning: MUSIC COLLAGE
To help me with planning to create my music magazine, I created this collage. I had to wait a while to get a copy of Billboard Magazine from my local newsagents because it had to be ordered in.
The purpose of this exercise was to aid me in creating my magazine. I looked at the typical artists associated with my genre and see what colours. There are colours of red, blue and yellow used throughout the magazine and some stars include Jesse Glynne, Meghan Trainor, Rihanna and John Legend.
I also added some features to my collage such as a drop capital, a barcode, an issue number, price and barcode and a pull quote.
